As if the number of small electric SUVs being launched wasn’t enough to send you into a tizzy, there will soon be another one joining the party: the Volkswagen ID Cross. And thanks to the reveal of the all-new ID Cross concept, we already have a very good idea of what it will look like.
Following on from VW’s recent decision to name its electric ID range after its popular sellers, the ID Cross concept has been clearly aligned with the VW T-Cross small SUV, and it acts as a glimpse into what the upcoming electric counterpart to that model will be like.

No battery capacities have been revealed for the ID Cross yet, but it’s forecast to be capable of travelling up to 260 miles on a single charge. We could see these range figures be improved for the production model, as the ID Cross’s underpinnings will be upgraded to VW Group’s MEB+ technology in the future. Still, that 260-mile figure outdoes the Citroën ë-C3 Aircross (249 miles) and Ford Puma Gen-E (233 miles).
Power comes from a 208bhp electric motor driving the front wheels, making it punchier than a Puma Gen-E, but not quite as quick as a Smart #1.
Outside, the resemblance to the T-Cross is evident, although the ID Cross concept has a slightly more upright stance with an LED lightbar stretching the width of the front end and an illuminated VW logo. It also gets chunky SUV styling, roof rails, 21in wheels and a protruding rear spoiler. Indeed, it departs quite dramatically from the styling of the all-electric ID 4 and ID 5 models, and it borrows a number of design elements from the recently-revealed ID Polo (previously expected to be called the ID 2).

Inside, the ID Cross concept gets a large 13in central infotainment touchscreen alongside an 11in digital instrument display behind the wheel. There’s a row of physical buttons below the central touchscreen for common functions, including climate control. On the centre console, there’s a wireless charging pad with space for two phones and a rotary button for other controls, as well as buttons on the steering wheel.
Boot capacity is rather competitive at 450 litres. While it’s on par with most rivals, the smaller ID Polo gets even more space, at 490 litres. The ID Cross concept also gets a 25-litre ‘frunk’ space under the bonnet, useful for storing charging cables.

The ID Cross will be one of four new compact electric cars launched by Volkswagen from 2026. It will arrive in the summer of 2026 after the launches of the ID Polo and ID Polo GTI, and before the 2027 production launch of the ID Every1 concept, which is expected to become the ID Up.
No prices have been revealed yet, but we expect the ID Cross to cost around £25,000, which would make it more expensive than the Citroën ë-C3 Aircross, but cheaper than a Ford Puma Gen-E.
