The Peugeot 508 has a well-finished interior and comes with a decent amount of equipment as standard, but plenty of rivals are more practical and better to drive. We recommend the Allure trim and the entry-level engine – unless you're a company car driver, in which case one of the plug-in hybrid options will be more cost-effective.

This trim adds bigger 18in alloys, heated front seats, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control and some styling flourishes on top of entry-level Allure trim.

This pricey plug-in hybrid option gets a 1.6-litre engine paired with an electric motor and offers an official electric range of 34 miles. Just bear in mind that in real-world driving conditions it will be quite a bit less than that. If you don’t keep the battery topped up then the fuel economy will be very poor. It’ll do 0-62mph in 8.3 seconds.
