Used Smart #1 2023-present reliability
Category: Electric SUV
The Smart #1 has a plush interior, strong performance and plenty of kit. It's a great used buy, although there are more practical alternatives

What should I look for in a used Smart HASHTAG 1 hatchback?
When viewing a used car, always follow our used car buying checklist.
All versions of the Smart #1 come with large 19in alloy wheels, so check them carefully for any signs of kerb damage. Inspect the bodywork and interior for scratches, scuffs, or other wear. The white leather interior is also prone to fading over time, so pay close attention to its condition. Finally, make sure all interior electrical systems are all functioning properly.

What are the most common problems with a used Smart HASHTAG 1 hatchback?
At the time of writing, the Smart #1 has just one recall listed. To check whether a car has been affected, you can contact your local Smart dealer. You will not need to pay for anything involving the recall.

Is a used Smart HASHTAG 1 hatchback reliable?
The Smart #1 is too new to have featured in the What Car? Reliability Survey and Smart as a brand didn’t rank in the brand section of the survey. However, to give you a steer on reliability, we did run a Smart #1 on our long-term fleet for four months.
While it was without trouble for most of our time with it, the car did blow a fuse, which left the car without any radio, phone or parking sensor sounds. Even the tick-tock of the indicators fell silent.
After a trip to the Smart dealer and the repairs were carried out (unfortunately these took a month to complete), the car was otherwise faultless. Interestingly, we were told that, at the time, Smart had only come across one other #1 that had a similar problem.
