What should I look for in a used Vauxhall Insignia hatchback?

The Vauxhall Insignia Grand Sport is a rather large car and thick roof pillars obstruct the view over your shoulder. This can hinder parking, especially in tight spaces. Parking sensors were an option, so look out for any scuffs to bumpers if the car you're looking at isn’t equipped with them.

Some of the larger alloy wheels fitted to models with bigger engines can be susceptible to kerb damage. Again, check for any blemishes – especially to the optional 20in diamond-cut wheels – because they can start to corrode if road salt reacts with the exposed metal.

What are the most common problems with a used Vauxhall Insignia hatchback?

Recalls

Potential for a reduction in braking power where the brake pedal is applied slowly and constantly.

In a certain number of Insignia B - Model Year 18 the outer rear seatbelts might be incorrectly routed at anchor point. In the event of a frontal crash this may lead to a higher load than the belt system is designed for or it may allow the passenger to slip through under the seatbelt.

The clip of a fuel line bundle might chafe against the fuel pump hose.

The turbo charger oil return pipe may get damaged by cracks which may lead to oil leaks.

On a certain number of Insignia B - Model Year 18 the clip of a fuel line bundle might chafe against the fuel pump hose resulting in fuel leaks and in the worst case in a risk of fire.

The Central Door Locking (CDL) might unlock the doors while the vehicle is parked or the doors can only be unlocked with the mechanical key. This is caused by inadequate sealing allowing water ingress into the door connector.

You should check if the vehicle you're interested in has been recalled and the above issues sorted.
