    My car

Bought an ex-dealer car with 9k miles on it at 12 months old.The spec was exactly what I wanted with the exception of not having heated seats which I miss in the winter as it has leather. It also came with the panoramic glass roof which lightens the interior brilliantly but is USELESS if you drive with it open above about 40 mph due to loud wind roar. Also has their own detachable towbar which was a must as I tow a caravan, very easy to use but as it's height is not adjustable double check the height of the tow-hitch at your caravan before ordering, mine only just tows level rather than a slight nosedown, but is still stable. Now done 22k miles, engine loosened up & pulls stronger at lower revs once over 15-18k miles.EXCELLENT service from Bowkers at Accrington, attended to a few warranty items at it's 1st service, which included corrosion on roof rails that other owners have talked about, and sticking rear brakes after being parked.Total service costs at 18k miles(it's first service) was only £165 !!! for a BMW,and next service not due for a further 18k. MPG around town averages 35mpg,increases to 40-44 on M/way runs, drops to 25-28 towing the caravan at 70-ish,on the continent of course.Ride is hard compared to a saloon but not to a trad'n 4x4,but compensation is that it handles like a sports car round the bends.Brilliant cruiser on the M/way and very versatile load carrier.

    My car

I bought my 3.0i sport from a main dealer in March 2005 (£32K - Ex Demo at £40K). Since this time, I have had no mechanical problems..aside from my sunroof sticking and being returned to me, unfixed. Similarly my brake sensor light came on when i had already unknowingly scored my rear offside disc. When i returned my car for repair under warranty, I was told that I had been deliberatly driving my car in this state for approx 1,000 miles and that the brake disc light on the dash must have been on for weeks !! With this, I took my car elswhere for repair and now....for the second time have made a complaint to BMW UK (Bramwell Wearing) head of Customer Services - with regard to a refund re my disc. However...all this aside - Drives like a coupe on the road with all the space you would need inside. Very thirsty though, with £20 giving you about 25 - 30 miles max. Top Draw spec and very safe i.e 8 air / head dash side and screen bags. Downhill Descent control also very useful. Massive boot..bigger than X5, fiddly rear removable parcel shelf. Doors feel too light compared to other BM's. Sport models have 6 speaker system with mids under front seats (unusual). All in all, 18 months later..fun had, time to go....Brand New A /B Class...here I come !!

    My car

THE GOOD POINTS: It drives like a sports car hard bumpy ride but sticks to road like glue, very roomy inside with a torquey 150bhp and a six speed box eats the boy racers at traffic lights. Running costs averaging 33 mpg £750 for tyres £300 for pads and disks £30 for wipers insurance group 15 Tax £195 (at moment). NOW FOR BAD POINTS: Having read reviews about not being built in a BMW factory Magnyr Stein a SAAB factory thought well SAAB a good car so what! 1: REPAIRED 3 TIMES FOR AIR CON UNIT BREAKING 6 MONTHS 2: REPAIRED SQUEAKY SEAT (VERY ANOYING)6 MONTHS 3: REPAIRED GLOVE BOX WOULD'NT CLOSE 6 MONTHS 4: REPAIRED ELECTRIC SUNROOF NOT FUNCTIONING 12 MONTHS 5: REPLACED ROOF RAIL FOR CORROSION 12 MONTHS 6: PLASTIC MOULDING ON BUMPER REPLACED (CAME OFF) 18 MONTHS 7: DRIVERS SEAT BROKEN CRACKED 18 MONTHS 8: HEADLIGHT BULBS REPLACED 18 MONTHS The interior is very plastic and cheap looking even through we have a wood spec NOT impressed with the BMW warning lights that are meaningless unless you carry the handbook with you. BMW Customer service is terrible considering you just bought a £31,000 car from them just get told "these things happen!" and book you in 2 weeks time when they can fit you in. Wrote a letter complaining not even a reply until i forwarded to head office. But they just said "sorry" not a sign of a bunch of flowers!! Now coming up too replace after our 2 year PCP are told its depreciated by nearly 50% £17,000 ! GREAT!

    My car

We bought this 2 year old X3last week from a BMW Main Dealer (Stratstone Doncaster). The free 7 day fully comp insurance offered by BMW meant that we drove away next day and were generally impressed with the deal and the service.

The car is stunning and the roar of that straight 6 is just what the doctor ordered! The car is quick, but not exceptionally so, and we have averaged 23mpg - not good but we expected it. We find the car very comfortable, you certainly feel the bumps in the road but the grip and feel is exceptional. Leather seats are a must - they are very comfortable. There is a rattle from the exaust when cold but the dealer said that was normal - if it is, it should'nt be!

We have sat nav and the tv function but the reception on the tv ranges from average to poor. The bluetooth function does not appear to work with my or my wife's phone.

Overall, we are very happy - having had a Z3 and a 3 series touring (we were not that impressed with the new 3) we feel that the X3 does not deserve the bad press and is a real drivers car with all the practicality and space you could ask for!
