I moved up from a Golf to an X3 when I got a Rhodesian Ridgeback (for the uninitiated, that's a large dog). Tried masses of 4x4s but this was the only small 4x4 that was fast and accommodated the dog. And I love it. It's practical yet very quiet and refined and can be very fast if you want it to be. More importantly the dog loves it too - not been carsick since I've had it, and rushes to jump in as soon as I pick up the keys. Parking sensors faulty but promptly fixed under warranty. I only wish I'd gone for electric seats and upgraded stereo (standard system not great). Ah well, next time!
my daughter purchased the 3.d sport in 2006 it has now done 24 k i drive this car a lot and i think it is a great car to drive. it is a better car tham the mercedes ml cdi that i have had three of and had to return them all.
I have a Sapphire Black with 19" M Spoke Wheels and had this car since April 06 and done 35,000mls. The performance is superb with excellent road holding ability, throw it into a corner and it will hold its line well without too much roll or under steer. Everyone who has been in the car have been impressed with its awesome acceleration and speed (Grin factor 10/10). Unfortunately the ride can be very hard but have tried one with SE suspension and found this no better. The auto box in normal setting has an awful lag when you least expect it from stop start and could get you in trouble at junctions, this is remedied by pushing it into sports mode but this is inconvenient. Towing is brilliant, I have a large caravan and it copes with all you throw at it with ease. Front parking sensors only work if you put it in reverse first, why? With the rear seating folded flat the loading area is very useful. Sat Nav professional works well but does lack full postcode facility. Economy is good, I can average 30 mpg when driving pretty hard. Does drink oil though, not huge amounts, but more than I would expect. Would I have another one? Yes, but I would like them to style the front better and sort the suspension (various settings would help).
I have owned this car for 4 months it is GREAT.I have the car fully loaded with extras, the only think i dont like is the sat-nav system to fiddly and only in 2D. Not cheap to run due to the mpg and fuel costs but thats life.... Great love it!! the only thing is my wife wants one now ouch!!!!
