    My car

My Freelander was bought to do a job of work which included fairly high mileage - 45,000 a year, in fact. Running costs are reasonable, and it is serviced every 6000 mles by private 4x4 garage.

In the 18 months I've had the car, the fuel pump, two wheel bearings, the turbo hose and three cam sensors have been replaced. I can live with wear and tear, but the frustration of not knowing if the car will start will probably be the deciding factor in my decision to sell the car and never buy another one, if Land Rover don't assure me that the starting problem is now solved.

Don't you just hate it when the service department staff just look at you without any understanding of how important it is to have your chosen vehicle in working order? They all seem to be able to fix the broken bits, but do not know their cars well enough to tell you why it failed!

I bought the car with 47,000 miles on the clock, it has now got 110,000 miles, and the car is five years old. It needs to do another 100,000 miles to have earned its keep. Can this car make it?

    My car

I enjoyed driving this car and we've had no problems with it at the moment. However, it isn't the best car for me or my family, and I don't like the sound of the engine at all. Mine comes with the PCD which is rubbish, and there's no need for it at all in my car.

    My car

I have owned my 5dr Td4 HSE for a year now and find it an excellent vehicle. One problem I did have was that the heater hoses had chaffed due to the vibration of the engine. Land Rover was aware of the problem and told me it only affected the Td4 models due to the fuel heater. Hoses were replaced at 15,000 miles, I have now done 24,000 in a year and all is good. Seat-height adjustment would have been a good feature but on the whole this is a great tool.

    My car

Owned the vehicle for four years. Only problem I had was the rear window washer hose parted internally in the rear door, which was rectified by the dealer promptly.

Found the Td4 engine reliable, quiet and nippy. All round, owning the Freelander was a pleasure and I don't understand the bad press it gets. Eventualy sold it to go up-market and bought a BMW X3 which is supposedly the BMW 'Freelander'. Wish I had kept my Freelander!
