The Q3 is practical, has plenty of tech and is decent to drive. However, the Range Rover Evoque and Volvo XC40 are both classier inside, more comfortable and are, ultimately, better all-rounders.
The trim
Sport trim is certainly worth a look. It shares the generous standard equipment list of the entry-level Technik trim but has larger 18in alloy wheels and some styling tweaks.
The engine
This 148bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine offers similar outright performance to the cheaper 35 TFSI petrol but with more low-rev oomph. If you do lots of miles of plan to tow, it's worth a look.
