Charlie Martin's career began and What Car? as an editorial apprentice, honing his trade by writing a wide range of news stories and advice features, covering everything from new model announcements to tech advice and motoring issues.

Since then, Charlie has moved to our sister title, Autocar, where he features heavily in its news pages.

Prior to joining What Car?, Charlie contributed to The Intercooler and placed second in Hagerty's Young Writer competition in 2019 with a feature focusing on the MG Metro 6R4 rally car. Charlie studied history at the University of Winchester, where he specialised in the impact of mobility – and the automobile – on 20th Century Europe.
