With its nippy acceleration and agile handling, the Ford Puma will put a bigger smile on your face than any other small SUV. It’s a car you can buy with your sensible hat on, too, thanks to its excellent real-world fuel economy, cleverly designed boot and attractive PCP costs. The Puma misses out on a fifth star in this highly competitive class because a few rivals are slightly more well rounded. Our favourite version is the Ecoboost 125 in ST Line trim.
The trim
The sportiest of all Pumas gets 19in alloy wheels, an aggressive ST body kit, lowered ST suspension, heated Performance seats and a heated steering wheel.
The engine
This 1.0-litre version of the ST is available exclusively with a Powershift seven-speed automatic gearbox. Producing 168bhp and 183lb ft of torque, this Puma ST takes 7.4sec to get from 0-62mph.
