With sports utility vehicles – SUVs – becoming ever more ubiquitous and technologically advanced, it’s no surprise some would become more about the sport than the utility. And the best are genuinely brilliant to drive. Indeed, if you have a family but yearn for the enjoyment of a sports car, then a sports SUV may well be the perfect choice.

Many of the major sports car players – Audi, Porsche and even Aston Martin and Lamborghini – are in on the act, delivering sport SUVs which deliver on that promise. These are expensive, make no mistake, but the likes of Cupra and Volkswagen are bringing the same formula to market at a far more palatable price.
