The new Lamborghini Urus SE Performante might be proof that switching to eco-friendly power doesn’t mean you’ve got to compromise on pure performance.
Indeed, this new variant of Lamborghini’s positively rapid sports SUV is the punchiest derivative of the Urus yet. It uses a plug-in hybrid set-up, combining a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine with a single electric motor for a total power output of 799bhp. That represents an increase of 11bhp over the regular SE variant, and a 144bhp boost over the pure-petrol Performante from the Urus’s previous generation.

Despite the boost in power, the new SE Performante matches the old Performante’s 0-62mph acceleration time of 3.3sec – which is still rapid, especially for a 2.5-tonne SUV. It shaves 0.1sec off of the SE’s time, and matches the Ferrari Purosangue.
The Performante represents a 32kg reduction in weight over the regular SE, thanks to “extensive” use of carbon fibre across the bodywork and a new titanium exhaust system, among other elements.

Thanks to a 25.9kWh battery, the SE Performante can officially travel on pure electric power for 37 miles. Four-wheel drive, adaptive air suspension and an eight-speed automatic gearbox come as standard, the latter of which Lamborghini claims has been updated to improve responsiveness.
Outside, the Urus gets some additional design features to improve efficiency, as well as increase downforce by 23% over the SE. These include upper and lower spoilers, a new front splitter and a revised air intake system. Buyers can choose between 22in or 23in wheels.

Inside, there’s a new 12.3in infotainment touchscreen, which Lamborghini says has better graphics and is more intuitive, alongside a 12.3in digital driver’s display.
Prices for the Lamborghini Urus SE Performante have not yet been revealed, but we’d expect them to start at a premium over the regular SE, which starts at £208,000. Still, you’d pay significantly more for a Purosangue.
