The Lexus NX 450h plug-in hybrid (PHEV) attracts our full five star rating on account of its plush interior, impressive refinement, substantial pure electric range, low CO2 emissions and low company car tax rate. If you can't easily plug in your car, the NX 350h hybrid is a good compromise. It might not be as frugal or as hushed as the 450h, but it’s competitively priced, more efficient than non-hybrid rivals and should benefit from Lexus’s legendary reliability.

On the face of it, the cheapest Premium Pack model would seem to make a lot of sense. It gets plenty of standard equipment, including 18in alloys, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry and artificial leather seats. The only caveat is that it comes with different suspension than the F-Sport versions we’ve tried so far.

This ‘self-charging hybrid’ version of the NX comes with a 2.5-litre petrol engine and electric motor to produce 241bhp. This is enough to take the NX from 0-62mph in 7.7sec and on to a top speed of 124mph. You can have this with two or four-wheel drive.
