Used Mini Countryman 2024-present reliability

When viewing a used car, always follow our used car buying checklist.

When inspecting a used Mini Countryman, start with the interior, because these cars are often used by families. Check for excessive wear on seats, rear areas and the boot, and make sure all electronics work properly – especially the infotainment system, driver assistance features and connectivity. A full service history is important, so confirm it’s complete and that any recalls or software updates have been carried out.

On the outside, look for scuffs, dents and kerbed alloy wheels, and check the tyres for uneven wear. During a test drive, the car should feel smooth and refined, with no knocks from the suspension, no hesitation from the engine and no jerky gear changes. It’s also worth checking for any signs of water ingress in the cabin, particularly on models with a panoramic roof, and ensuring brakes, steering and all electrical features operate exactly as they should.

At the time of writing, the Mini Countryman has five recalls listed. To check whether a car has been affected, you can contact your local Mini dealer. You will not need to pay for anything involving the recall.

Reason for recall

On affected vehicles, the armrest on the rear door trim may not be secured to the correct specification, which could damage the side airbag during deployment.

How the manufacturer will repair: On affected vehicles, the affected rear door trim will be replaced.

Reason for recall

On certain vehicles, the Integrated Brake (IB) system may be impaired due to contamination between electrical contacts.

How the manufacturer will repair: Vehicles that may be affected by contamination are required to have the vehicle’s software updated, which can detect signal interference before it occurs. If symptoms are detected, you should refrain from use of the vehicle and the affected Integrated Brake (IB) system component will be replaced.

Reason for recall

On affected vehicles, the screws connecting the front end to the vehicle's body may have been tightened to a torque level lower than required.

How the manufacturer will repair: The screws will be replaced if necessary and correctly torqued.

Reason for recall

On affected vehicles, the ground connection cable on the 48V power supply control unit may not have been torqued to the correct specification.

How the manufacturer will repair: Affected vehicles will have the ground connection checked and re-torqued. If required, the relevant cable and Power Control Unit will be replaced.

Reason for recall

On affected vehicles, the front seat belts may have damage to the torsion bar caused during manufacture. The retention function of the seat belt may not perform as expected in the event of an accident.

How the manufacturer will repair: The affected seatbelts will be replaced.

The 2024-present Countryman is too new to have featured in the 2025 What Car? Reliability Survey. However, the car’s predecessor, which is a close relative, has a good reliability record. It finished in 16th place out of 38 cars in the small SUV class, with a strong score of 95.4%. That’s better than the Cupra Ateca and Ford Puma, but worse than the Audi Q2 and Volkswagen T-Roc.

As a brand, Mini did very well. It finished in second place out of 30 manufacturers listed, placing it above Kia, Hyundai, Volkswagen and Volvo, but below Honda. In 2024, it came first.
