Honda Civic diesel

Although in decline, there is still a market for diesel-powered family cars, and this new 1.6-litre Civic is one of the cleanest and most fuel efficient on offer. After sampling it in the UK, it’s clear that it’s also one of the comfier options.

Yes, the Octavia and Golf offer a better all-round package, but there's no doubt that the Civic’s low CO2 emissions will keep company car tax bills down, while a competitive list price and good PCP finance deals certainly make it worthy of consideration.

It doesn’t, however, offer a compelling enough package to tempt us to change our pick of the Civic range. Our favourite 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol version of the Civic is cheaper and more refined, and we think it's a better match for most buyers.
