2023 BMW i5 verdict and specs

One of our favourite luxury cars – the BMW 5 Series – is reinvented with a fully electric version to take on the Mercedes-Benz EQE

Verdict

The i5 makes a strong first impression and is far from at risk of being the overlooked sibling in the BMW saloon range. In fact, it’ll give the Mercedes EQE plenty to worry about.

advertisment

While the prototype i5 continues to progress through its final phases of fine-tuning before it arrives in October, this electric version of the BMW 5 Series already feels more like a complete package to drive than its main rival, the EQE. The battery range might not match the EQE (or the much cheaper VW ID 7), but the i5's combination of impressive comfortable and agility should make the slight compromise worthwhile.
