Best sports car for value

Alpine A110 1.8 Turbo

With the bargain-priced Mazda MX-5 about to be updated (and therefore not a car we can currently recommend), value in the context of sports cars comes in a different form this year. The Alpine A110 may not be as affordable as the MX-5, but you definitely get your money’s worth when it comes to driving pleasure.

Alpine A110 interior

This is largely thanks to the A110’s exceptionally low weight, which helps it to feel more lithe and involving than even the Porsche Cayman. Its leanness also pays off when it comes to performance; the A110 is as quick from 0-62mph as the Cayman, despite having a small four-cylinder engine and ‘just’ 248bhp. It’s quieter than the Cayman at a cruise and is comfy enough for longer trips.

With very limited storage space, a spartan interior and a less appealing engine note, the A110 has to defer to the Cayman overall, but it’s one of the most agile and entertaining sports cars you can buy, regardless of price.
