Deal of the day: Audi Q3
Save more than £3000 on the Audi Q3 2.0 TDI Quattro S Line Plus...
Ahead of its November launch, we’ve driven the upcoming Audi Q2 – the German brand’s smallest and most affordable SUV yet. However, if you fancy a new SUV and don’t want to wait, then it’s worth considering the slightly bigger Q3.
It was updated only last year, gaining a bold new front grille and extra equipment, but you can already save thousands on the list price.
The Audi Q3 is as compact and easy to park as a family hatchback, yet it provides the sort of elevated driving position that SUV buyers love.
The 2.0-litre TDI diesel Q3 offers strong acceleration and the reassurance of four-wheel drive. But it still averages more than 50mpg in official tests.
If practicality is a high priority, the X1 is a better choice; it has plenty of rear leg room, whereas taller adults will find their knees press against the front seat backrests in the Q3.
Even after discounts, the Q3 will cost you significantly more than some other popular SUVs, including the Nissan Qashqai (below).
Should I add any options?
S Line Plus is the range-topping trim, so you won’t have to spend any extra to get the equipment you want.
As on all S Line Audis, the list of standard features includes a menacing looking body kit, large alloy wheels and sports seats, while metallic paint, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors and satellite-navigation are also included.
The only box on the options list that we’d recommend you tick is the one that swaps the standard sports suspension for the Dynamic set-up. This improves ride comfort without turning the Q3 into something that’s clumsy in the bends. And best of all, it’s free.
What else should I consider?
In addition to the X1 and Qashqai, it's worth looking at the Mazda CX-5. Compared with the Audi it feels a bit drab inside, but it's cheaper to buy, as well as far more spacious and similarly enjoyable to drive. Its Skyactiv-D engine is one of the best four-cylinder diesels around.
