Where the Citigo stands out is in its ride and handling, particularly around town. The Citigo is an excellent car in an urban environment, taking bumpy roads in a composed manner. Its tight turning circle helps with difficult manoeuvres in town and the light steering makes easy work of parking. The 1.0-litre engine is nippy enough for urban trips as well.
Despite being a city car, there’s plenty of room in the front and two adults can sit in the back, and with the rear seats folded the load capacity is impressive.
The Citigo is cheaper than its sister cars, the Seat Mii and Volkswagen Up, and is exempt from road tax thanks to its low 95g/km CO2 emissions.
It may beat the Up in terms of price, but the quality of the interior in the Citigo can’t match that of its Volkswagen rival.
The 1.0-litre engine may be well suited to town driving, but it struggles with hills and accelerating on the motorway where you’ll have to rev hard to make brisk progress.
Road and wind noise encroaches into the cabin at motorway speeds.
Should I add any options?
Power steering and a CD player with aux input come with entry-level S trim. SE adds air-con, electric front windows, remote central locking and more body-coloured exterior trim. DAB digital radio can be added for £150.
Top-level Elegance spec gives alloys, heated front seats and Skoda’s portable infotainment system.
