The all-new BMW 1 Series is now on sale in the UK, so it's understandably driving interest among buyers of premium family hatchbacks. Our experience with the car so far has been positive, too: there's a good-size boot on offer, as well as the kind of plush interior that buyers in this market look for. Add in surefooted handling and a strong range of engines and it's no surprise that interest in the 1 Series only grows with time.

Mercedes GLA

Interested while researching 10% | Interested at buying stage 7%

Since SUVs are among the most popular cars on UK roads, it's unsurprising to see this high-riding version of the A-Class featuring on this list. However, the current GLA is based on the previous A-Class, which wasn't among our favourites in this class. We'd therefore recommend waiting for the all-new model to come out in early 2020 if you're strongly considering a GLA.

Ford Focus

Interested while researching 9% | Interested at buying stage 6%

The Ford Focus is one of the best-selling new cars in the UK, and while interest in it falls as shoppers do their research, there's still a lot to like about this family hatchback. For a start, it's substantially cheaper to buy than the A-Class, plus it offers class-leading handling. In fact, it's the best driver's car in the class.
