Nissan Micra recall over steering wheel
* More than 130,000 cars being recalled in the UK
* No risk of sudden failure; no accidents reported
Nissan has announced a recall of 133,869 Micra cars in the UK to fix a manufacturing fault in the steering wheel. The problem affects more than 800,000 Nissan cars worldwide.
In the UK, the recall affects Nissan Micras built in the companys Sunderland factory between 2002 and 2006. Elsewhere in the world, Cubes built between 2002 and 2006 feature the same issue, but only a small number of these are in the UK as grey imports.
A bolt in both models steering wheels was not screwed tightly enough during assembly. Nissan is resolving the issue by either tightening the bolts or replacing the steering wheels altogether.
No accidents have been reported, and Nissan says that there is no danger of sudden failure, but that it is being proactive after an owner reported their steering wheel was becoming loose.
Nissan Micra owners will be contacted within the next few weeks to arrange a repair, and the work should take about 15 minutes to complete.
