Peugeot 508 RXH details revealed

The 508 RXH is based on the SW estate and will make its public debut at the Frankfurt motor show next month. It has four-wheel drive as standard and is powered by a hybrid system that combines a 161bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine with a 36bhp electric motor.

The combined power output is 197bhp. Power from the diesel engine goes to the front wheels, while the electric motor drives the rear wheels. Up to 221lb ft of torque can be sent to the front wheels, while 148lb ft can be sent to the rear. Maximum combined torque is 332lb ft.

There are four driving modes Auto, Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV), 4WD and Sport. In ZEV mode the car can operate solely on electric power for short journeys. Theres a semi-auto gearbox, with the option of sequential manual shifts.

The RXH looks quite different to the standard 508 SW. As well as a higher ride height, theres extra SUV-style body cladding, bespoke alloy wheels and a new front bumper and grille. There are distinctive LED daytime running lights, too, which form three lion claws.

A panoramic glass roof will be standard, while the RXHs cabin comes with a range of upgraded materials. Standard equipment will be lavish and is expected to include four-zone climate control, electric driver and passenger seat adjustment, laminated side windows, satellite-navigation and xenon headlights.

The 508 RXH will go on sale in spring. The list price has yet to be confirmed, but wed expect it to be at least 28,000.

A special-edition model will go on sale at launch. Just 300 examples of the Limited Edition 508 RXH will be made, all with Calern Brown paintwork and Alcantara interior trim. Only 30 will be available in the UK.
