Used test: Skoda Octavia vs Vauxhall Astra

Our Verdict

This is another used test that ends up being a very close call. One thing is for sure though; choose either of these cars and you’ll be getting one of the best family cars you can buy. The Vauxhall Astra is more agile, has a better infotainment system, more standard kit and in day-to-day use it may well even cost you slightly less to run.

Even so, the Skoda Octavia is a better choice. For one, it has a much more sophisticated ride, and its interior is classier. On top of that, its performance is stronger than the Astra’s, and its long-term running costs should be the cheaper if you factor in its better residual values. What really clinches its victory here though is its class-leading space. It has more room inside for passengers, most especially those in the rear, and its boot is a colossal size for a car in this class. The Octavia remains one of our favourite family cars to buy new and, on the basis of this test, it’s also one of favourites to buy used.
