The cabin is almost identical to the V70 estate’s, and in some ways this is no bad thing because the seats are comfortable and the controls functional. However, buyers may feel disappointed by the lack of a distinctive ‘off-roader’ look to the interior, and it lacks the upmarket feeling of the Audi Allroad or BMW X5.
Volvo XC70 space & practicality
The V70-based XC is both big and clever. Not only does it have an enormous rear load area, it also has luggage nets and hooks, straps to keep your groceries from being flung all over the boot, a bin and even an umbrella holder. Rear seats split and fold easily without the need to remove headrests.
Volvo XC70 equipment
Standard equipment is generous. Every model has climate control, a CD autochanger, electric windows, electric seat-height adjustment, alloy wheels and leather trim – much better to wipe down if you do go anywhere near mud. Sat-nav features on the SE Lux, though the price premium is steep. Both engines come with manual gearboxes as standard, but automatic versions are available at extra cost.
