Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG revealed

The S65 AMG – the flagship version of the Mercedes S-Class – has been revealed.

The S65 AMG is powered by a 6.0-litre V12 engine that produces 621bhp, taking the executive saloon from 0-62mph in just 4.3sec and on to a limited top speed of 155mph.

The biturbo V12 usurps the V8-powered S63 model as the range-topper, and is expected to cost in the region of £160,000.

It's available only in long-wheelbase form, but despite its size Mercedes claims it is the most efficient V12 car of its type, with average fuel economy of 23.7mpg. It is also compliant with the upcoming Euro VI emissions legislation.

The S65 AMG comes with a seven-speed automatic gearbox as standard, complete with three modes: Controlled Efficiency (C); Sport (S); and Manual (M). As part of its fuel-saving efforts, eco stop-start is permanently activated in C mode.

To distinguish the S65 from standard S-Class models, it comes with a series of visual enhancements, including AMG forged alloy wheels, a V12 grille, exterior chrome details, two sets of twin tailpipes and bespoke badges.

Inside, it gets exclusive Nappa leather upholstery, AMG sports seats, a two-spoke sports steering wheel and AMG badging throughout.

First cars will reach customers in the UK in April 2014, and the car is set to make its public debut simultaneously at the Tokyo and Los Angeles motor shows at the end of November.
