New Renault Twingo revealed

  • New city car shown ahead of Geneva debut
  • Rear-engined layout shared with next Smart Forfour
  • Due on sale by the summer

The new Renault Twingo has been previewed via an online broadcast ahead of its public debut at the Geneva motor show early next month.

This single image shows a line-up of four Twingos, highlighting how the new city car – a joint development between Renault and Smart – will offer various personalisation options and, evidently, the choice of a full-length fabric roof.

Renault has not issued any further details on the car. However, we do know that because the Twingo will share chassis components with the next generation of Smart Forfour and Fortwo, it will switch to a rear-engined, rear-wheel-drive layout in a bid to free up cabin space.

It's thought that the car will focus on personalisation more than an aggressive price, potentially making it a rival for the Fiat 500 rather than the Hyundai i10 and Skoda Citigo.

Renault is expected to announced further details, including additional images, in the coming days. The Twingo is expected to go on sale in late summer.
