Top 10 Frankfurt show cars coming soon - Renault Twingo
Has Renault’s new family look
On sale January 2012
Renault launched an updated version of its Twingo supermini at the Frankfurt motor show.
The changes give the car a new look, thanks to its fresh headlights, grille and bumpers. The rear tailgate and lights have also been redesigned, while new colours and alloy wheel designs will be available, as will an electrically operated fabric sunroof.
The Twingo’s new-look front end features an enlarged and more upright Renault logo, sitting in the middle of a narrow grille that flows directly into the headlights. These and the foglights are positioned next to the grille, with ‘eyelids’ on the headlights giving the car a ‘face’.
At the back, there are new lights on the tailgate, echoing those on the front, and they combine with the more rounded bumper and more curved edge to the tailgate to create softer lines.
Renault says the Twingo is the first production vehicle to be inspired by its new design identity, which has been previewed by concept cars such as the DeZir supercar, Frendzy MPV, Captur crossover and R-Space MPV
To allow buyers to personalise their car, there will be the option of five new factory-fitted roof decals, as well as the chance to choose different colours for the door mirrors and tips of the side mouldings.
Inside, there are new patterns on the upholstery, with the edgings picked out in contrasting colours and all the stitching coordinated. The colours also feature on the door panels and the controls for the ventilation system.
‘Our aim was to reinforce the fun, colourful and friendly character of Twingo. We wanted it to appeal beyond its core customer base,’ said Antoine Genin, Renault’s director of interior design.
The changes don’t extend to any of the mechanical parts, however, so the engine range and suspension remain unchanged.
Prices haven’t been confirmed, but Renault has recently dropped the price for some of its models and it’s possible that the Twingo could follow suit when the car goes on sale in January.
