The Jaguar XF Sportbrake 2.2D arrived on the What Car? long-term test fleet a month ago, so it's time for a video update to report on its progress.
Despite being on sale in saloon form since 2007, Jaguar only recently added an estate variant to take on the competition from Audi, BMW and Mercedes.

Our car features the more powerful of the Jaguar XF's 2.2-litre four-cylinder diesel engines. With 197bhp and 332lb ft, it has more than enough power and torque to cope with the kind of heavier load you tend to throw into the back of an estate.
There's no significant emissions penalty for running the more powerful car even on 18-inch alloys our car emits only 139g/km of CO2. Government average economy is 54.mpg, although What Car? True MPG suggests this will be nearer to 42.7mpg in real-world driving conditions.
We specified Sport trim for our XF Sportbrake, with items such as rear parking sensors, a powered tailgate, privacy glass, automatic bi-xenon headlights and automatic headlamp washers included as standard.
We also delved into the options list for items including, metallic paint (650), folding heated side mirrors (430), front parking aids and reversing camera (500), heated front seats and heated windscreen (570) and a mild upgrade to the sound system (590).
The list price for the Jaguar XF Sportbrake 2.2D 200 Sport is 37,440, but with our options the final bill was 40,180. For that sort of money, you could get a (admittedly underequipped) BMW 525d Touring SE, so the Jaguar certainly needs to prove itself during the year.
