The perfect 50th birthday present for the driver who has everything a mystery buyer has snapped up the registration plate '5 0' for 87,850.

'5 0' is the fifth in a series of plates released to celebrate twenty years of DVLA Personalised Registrations, which has included 1 0, 2 0, 3 0 and 4 0.

The sale of these five plates has raised 566,344 for government coffers so far all money raised through DVLA auctions goes straight to the Treasury.

Damian Lawson, marketing manager of DVLA Personalised Registrations, said: 'We have been amazed by the level of interest in an O-registration.

'The decision to release them to the public has certainly proved worthwhile in terms of the revenue raised for the nation.'
