It's not advisable. Parents cutting costs by naming themselves as the main driver of the insurance for their child's car risking huge bills and prosecution.

Research by joint car insurance and purchase scheme Young Marmalade found that 41% of parents surveyed had an insurance policy on a car which was mainly used by their children.

Unless children are only occasional drivers on such a policy, parents could be accused of fronting. Insurers may refuse to pay out in the event of an accident, and parents could also be prosecuted.
