Additional 2 million for road safety

* Government announces extra spending
* 16 local authorities and safety groups share cash
* In addition to 110 million already budgeted

The Government has announced it's investing an additional 2 million in road safety this year, as it pushes to lower road deaths and injuries.

The money will be shared between 16 local authorities and the road safety groups Brake, the Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

The amount received by each organisation varied according to requests for specific uses. Brake, for instance, will get 41,136 for the educational resources for Road Safety Week.

Road Safety Minister Jim Fitzpatrick said: 'We already give local authorities 110 million each year to spend on road safety, but this extra investment will support additional projects to help make our roads safer for everyone.'
