Centre of attention on the Alfa Romeo stand was the latest version of the company's 4C Concept sporting a new 'fluid metal' paint job.

The two-seat, mid-engined, rear-wheel drive coupe was first shown at the Geneva Show in March this year, and other than the colour, not much has changed since then.

It combines materials and technology from the 8C Competizione supercar such as carbon and aluminium with bits and pieces from current Alfas: its 1750 petrol engine and TCT twin-clutch transmission, for example.

What Alfa can confirm is that the car weighs about 850kg an amazingly low figure while the engine develops more than 200bhp. That's a combination that will give performance befitting its compact supercar' tag. It should sprint to 60mph in less than five seconds.

There's no further word on when we can expect to see a production version of the car, but at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June, Alfa told us it should go on sale in 2013.

That followed the company telling us in Geneva this year that it hoped the 4C would cost about 40,000; and, while it would not be sold as a limited edition, production capacity would be limited to around 1500 cars per year.
