Best used city cars for less than £2000 (and the ones to avoid)
3=. Peugeot 107
Being essentially the same car underneath, the Peugeot 107 shares the Toyota Aygo’s strengths and weaknesses; it’s great fun around town, but not so competent out on the open road. But the 107 (and the Citroën C1) is more common and a fraction cheaper, which makes it a slightly better buy.

3=. Citroën C1
The only difference between the Citroën C1 and its sister cars is the badge and some minor styling tweaks, but like the 107, generally speaking, the C1 is a shade better value on the used market than the Aygo. Whichever model of the three you choose, though, avoid examples with the jerky automatic gearbox.

2. Fiat Panda
The Fiat Panda combines all the best bits of every city car you can get at this price into one great package. It’s great to drive, comfortable and quiet whether you’re in town or driving at speed, has a range of three excellent engines, and even gets a sliding rear seat (if you avoid the base model). Plus, the Panda's boot is huge by class standards, and it has plenty of room in its back seats. It’s good value, too, and while its interior is a little cheap-feeling in places, it looks smart and is laid out well.
