BYD seems to be covering all bases with the plethora of models already available here in the UK, and it's ready to venture into a new market: the chunky off-road SUV – and it'll come in the form of the new BYD Ti7.
Indeed, after teasing the post on social media earlier this month, the brand officially confirmed the model for the UK today (19 May 2026). The Ti7 – short for Titanium 7 – is already available in the brand's home market of China, where it's badged under BYD's premium subsidiary brand Fangchengbao.
With its chunky, boxy looks, the Ti7 looks set to take on off-road-ready SUVs such as the Land Rover Defender, plus premium seven-seat offerings including the Volvo XC90. At 5146mm long, 1995mm wide and 1865mm tall, the Ti7 will be around a similar size to 110 and 130 versions of the Defender, but it'll need some serious off-road capabilities to beat that model.
Like the model in China, the Ti7 will be powered by a plug-in hybrid set-up, featuring a 1.5-litre petrol engine alongside two electric motors for four-wheel drive. While battery sizes haven't yet been revealed, BYD has quoted an official all-electric combined range of 79 miles – a pretty impressive figure. For reference, the Defender has an official EV range of just 30 miles, while the Chery Tiggo 9 has a whopping 91-mile range.
Those motors should be able to propel the Ti7 from 0-62mph in just 4.8sec – much speedier than the Defender PHEV, and even quicker than the XC90's 5.4sec time.

Inside, the Ti7 in China gets a large 15.6in central infotainment touchscreen alongside a 12.3in digital driver's display, as well as a panoramic sunroof, a rear passenger touchscreen and a head-up display. There'll be three rows of seats inside, with space for seven occupants.
Recently, a version of the Ti7 with 'Flash charging' was unveiled in China, with the ability to charge at speeds of up to 1500kW with BYD's latest tech – but that one is all-electric and is not expected to make it here to the UK.
More details about the new BYD Ti7 will be revealed in the coming months. This includes the Ti7's price, which we expect will be competitive compared with rivals, at around £45,000. That’s much cheaper than the Land Rover Defender 110, which costs from £62,915, plus the Volvo XC90, which is priced from £66,270.
