Chelsea tops 4x4 popularity table

Almost 20% of cars registered in Chelsea are 4x4s, according to a survey by Diamond Insurance.

Kensington is close behind on 17.4%, while the much more rural areas of Banchory and Turriff in Scotland come third and fourth.

Surrey commuter-belt towns Cobham, Guildford and Dorking also make the top 10, with Ashford and Wadhurst in Kent, and Brentwood in Essex completing the league table.

The survey revealed that the Range Rover was the most favoured model followed by the Land Rover Freelander. Haulage contractors are the most likely to buy a 4x4 followed by bank directors, farmers and then agricultural contractors.Top 10 areas for 4x4s
