Paul Stephen Simpson, 51, was convicted of dangerous driving in October. He has now been given a 140-day jail sentence and banned from driving for 18 months. He will also have to take an extended driving test once the disqualification ends.

Simpson had attempted to breach a rolling road block on the M6 near Tebay, Cumbria, in January this year. He was stopped when he was caught between the traffic officers high visibility 4x4 and the central reservation.

Simpson, a lorry driver, had denied driving dangerously in trying to get around the restriction, which was set up following a fatality earlier in the day.
