Fastback confirmed for Mazda3 lineup

Mazda has confirmed details of the Fastback version of the all-new 3, which launches later this year.

The new 3 has a longer wheelbase, is wider and lower than the outgoing model, and Mazda promise huge improvements in refinement, ride and economy. The Fastback saloon shares the same striking front end as the hatchback but gets a different roof, boot, rear wings and bumper treatment. Outside, it is 120mm longer than the hatch, and inside, that translates into a 20% increase in luggage space to 419 litres.

Mechanically, the fastback saloon is identical to the hatchback model, boasting a 1.5 litre turbo and a pair of two-litre turbocharged petrol engines, but the cleanest and most frugal option is the 104g/km diesel.
