Ferrari to limit production volumes
* Company will not pursue an SUV or electric car
* California replacement likely use hybrid tech
Ferrari will become even more exclusive, company boss Luca di Montezemelo has promised. The supercar company will make fewer cars in 2013 than it did last year 'in order to preserve exclusivity and protect used car values'.
Ferrari has had stellar growth in the past few years, largely because of huge expansion in Asia. In 2012 it sold more than 7000 cars in 61 countries. However, growth will now be capped and di Montezemelo also promised that the company would only make GTs and sports cars. He ruled out any future move into other sectors such as saloons and SUVs, as well as any fully electric car.
Engineering boss Amadeo Felisa promised that Ferrari would continue making strides in improving performance and lowering CO2 emissions, through engine technology and lowering weight.
The company showed its first petrol-electric hybrid, the LaFerrari hypercar, at the 2013 Geneva motor show. Future models such as the replacement for the California GT, due in 2015, are likely to share this tech.
