Ferrari won't build Alfa Romeo engines

Ferrari will not manufacture engines for the next generation of Alfa Romeos, a senior source has admitted.

advertisment

Despite rumours, and the fact that the Italian supercar maker is now building V6 and V8 engines for the latest Maseratis, it wont be doing the same for new Alfas.

Reports had suggested that the next large Alfa saloon a replacement for the 166 and believed to share components with the just-launched Maserati Ghibli would also be powered by a turbocharged V6 made by Ferrari.

However, a source did admit that Ferrari would be having technical input into Alfas next-generation engines. Ferrari has made large investments in engine technology in recent years, with the aim of vastly improving the economy and emissions of high-performance, large-capacity engines.
