Ford released official images of the new Fiesta's three-door variant last week.

There are four petrol engines ranging from 59bhp to 113bhp. Diesel buyers can choose either a 67bhp 1.4-litre unit or an 88bhp 1.6.

All Fiestas will have a five-speed manual transmission, although a four-speed automatic transmission will be available on selected models.

The Fiesta's central instrument stack takes its inspiration from mobile phone keypads, which Ford says makes the Fiesta's controls more intuitive to use.

Ford's Convers+ system, which allows the driver to control the car's music and sat-nav functions via a control on the steering wheel, is an option, as is Bluetooth connectivity and keyless entry.

Prices for five-door models are expected to begin from around 9000.
