Frankfurt 2009: Volvo C30 and C70

What are they?
Cosmetic makeovers for Volvo's three-door hatchback and coupe-convertible.

What's new?
Volvo has a new family look, inspired by the S60 concept car, that's being applied to its not-so-new models.

First to get the treatment are the C30 and C70. Both have an entirely new front end, with reshaped headlights, body panels and bumpers that give a bolder, more modern look. There are new door mirrors and wheel designs too, while the C70 has a redesigned rear bumper and new LED tail lights.

The C30 is available in a new 'Orange Flame' metallic paint finish. A new accessory styling kit includes aluminium-effect foglamp surrounds, front and rear skidplates and side scuff plates.

There haven't been as many changes inside, but the C70 has a new, wider instrument panel and upgraded materials.

Interior upgrades for the C30 are limited to new fabrics and colours. A new 'Espresso/Blond' colour scheme has a dark brown upper section and a blond, fresh shade for the lower door sides. With this scheme, you can also add accent colours, including orange, green or blue seat panels, or new 'Cranberry' leather upholstery.

Volvo has also unveiled a a tweaked version of the C30 DRIVe, with CO2 emissions of just 99g/km.

What's changed under the skin?
Not a lot. The engines for both models are unchanged. A new 'Sports chassis' option is now available for all but 1.6D DRIVe C30 models, however. It includes tweaked steering for quicker responses and stiffer suspension for sharper handling.

How much will they cost?
Prices haven't been announced, but we'd expect small rises for both models when they go on sale early in 2010.
