At 434cm long, the Scenic is 22cm shorter than the Grand version. Apart from the extra length it also features different rear-end styling, but otherwise the two cars are the same.

Initially, 28 different engine and trim combinations are available. The trim levels are carried over from the Grand Scenic, with Extreme, Expression, Dynamique, TomTom Edition and Privilege models to choose from.

Standard equipment on all versions includes air-conditioning, stability control and front, side and curtain airbags. Options include Renault's new Carminat TomTom integrated sat-nav system at £450 and all-round parking sensors and a rear-view camera for £650

The engine range includes 1.4-, 1.6- and 2.0-litre petrols and 1.5-,1.9- and 2.0-litre diesels, with power outputs ranging from 85- to 181bhp. Six versions carry Renaults eco2 tag, thanks to carbon dioxide emissions of less than 130 g/km.

The entry-level 1.6 VVT 110 Extreme model costs £13,595 - £1400 less than the equivalent Grand Scenic and £2045 cheaper than the entry-level Ford C-Max.
