Future Mini models revealed

BMW has already turned the modern day Mini into a very different car to the 1959 original, but what other new models could be in store?

Our computer images show how the ever-growing range could be expanded, and stretched, after the most-recent Countryman crossover launch.

The first flight-of-fancy would be the smallest new-age Mini yet - a Smart Fortwo-style two-seater. It's possible, however, that even this city car could be bigger than pint-sized Issigonis original.

The next future alternative after a crossover is an MPV, a curious five-door, five-seater that stretches the look of the Mini to the absolute limit.

Only time will tell if either of these options will make it into production, but the Mini family is guaranteed to grow with the addition of sportier Coupe and Roadster models.

Unveiled in concept form last year, Mini has already confirmed that both will be built at the Cowley plant in Oxfordshire. Production is likely to start next year.
