Geneva 2012: Pininfarina Cambiano

This is the Pininfarina Cambiano, a new luxury concept car unveiled at the 2012 Geneva motor show by the famous Italian style house.

The four-seat saloon has a Hyundai Veloster-style door arrangement, with one on the drivers side and two on the passenger side. The side with two doors has no central pillar, to maximise space and make it easier to get in and out of the car.

Power comes from a 79bhp electric motor fitted to each of the four wheels, which gives a 0-62mph time of 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 170mph. The Cambiano has a range of up to 125 miles in pure electric mode, but range-extending technology incorporating a diesel generator can kick in to take it far beyond this.

Large parts of the cabin, including the floor, are made from recycled wood (European oak to be precise).

This, says Pininfarina, is because it a wonderful material that is both 'poor and noble'.
