Good week, bad week: Feb 26
* Good week for Saab and electric cars * Bad week for Hummer and Toyota (yes, again) * Jaguar XJ driven = very good week...
Its been a good week for Saab, as the sale to Spyker has been finalised, but a bad week for Hummer as its purchase by a Chinese manufacturer falls through.
While the Swedish brand lives on in the hands of the Dutch supercar manufacturer, the days for Hummer are numbered as Tengzhong pulls out and owner GM starts to wind it down.
Its also been a good week for electric cars, however, as the Government has announced the detail of its 2011 scheme that will provide up to 5000 towards the purchase cost of a new car. Land Rover has also secured a 340 million loan to develop hybrid versions of its cars.
Things still dont look rosy over at Toyota where the top brass have eaten more humble pie in front of a US Congressional committee hearing into the companys recalls.
The Geneva Motor Show kicks off after the weekend, so manufacturers have fallen over each other in the rush to push their new metal including the fast Audi RS 5, hybrid Lexus CT 200h and Porsche Cayenne and a plug-in Lotus Evora with sounds effects from Star Wars.
Its also been a good week for first drives as weve got behind the wheel of the Jaguar XJ and Vauxhall Meriva.
