Goodwood to host Lotus 60th birthday

The Goodwood Festival of Speed will celebrate several automotive milestones this year, including Lotus's 60th anniversary.

Founded by Colin Chapman in 1952, Lotus will mark its 60th by providing a large static display in front of Goodwood House, while many of its modern and historic cars will tackle the legendary hillclimb.

At least 40 Lotus cars will drive up the Goodwood hill, including the Evora GTE and S, and the Exige S from the current line-up, while a selection of classic Formula One cars, saloons and Indycars will also make the run.

'The central sculpture will celebrate Lotus's 60th anniversary and it is looking sensational,' said the festival's host, Lord March.

Other notable anniversaries that will be celebrated include 10 years of the Porsche 911 Carrera Cup racing series and 50 years of Brabham.

Goodwood will also be honouring the Queen's Diamond Jubilee with a selection of royal cars, aircraft and trains.

The Moving Motor Show, now in its third year, will take place on June 28, where members of the public will be able to drive cars up the hill. This year, 22 manufacturers are expected to take part before the Festival of Speed starts on June 29.
