Hull tops vehicle car crime league

Car owners in Hull are most likely to suffer vehicle crime, while Swindon has the lowest rate of offences, according to a new survey.

The research, by Endsleigh Insurance, reveals that vehicle crime in Hull is 122.6% above the national average.

By contrast, Swindon is the safest place for cars, with a rate 48.5% below the national average.

Endsleigh ranked the UKs towns and cities by comparing the frequency of vehicle theft claims among its motor insurance policyholders over the three years prior to the start of 2008.

According to the insurance company, the 10 most dangerous towns and cities for vehicle theft are:
1 Hull (rate +122.6% above the national average)
2 Nottingham (+86.3%)
3 Manchester (+73.9%)
4 Stockport (+73.0%)
5 Ilford (+72.9%)
6 Northampton (+72.8%)
7 Bradford (+65.0%)
8 Sheffield (+49.6%)
9 Leeds (+48.7%)
10 London (total) (+47.1%)

1 Swindon (rate -48.5% below the national average)

3 Solihull (-38.3%)
