Infiniti to change range names

Infiniti is to change the names of its models, with all of them to start with the prefixes Q or QX.

All saloons, coupes and convertibles will start with Q, while crossovers and SUVs will begin with QX. This prefix will be followed by a two-digit number, which will denote where the car features in the companys range. However, the number will no longer signify the engine in the car.

All existing models will change their names when they're updated or replaced, which means the first car to be renamed will be the current G saloon.

The G saloon will become the Q50, while the G Coupe and G Convertible will both carry the Q60 badge.

The M saloon will become the Q70, while the EX SUV will eventually change to the QX50 and the FX is to become the QX70.

The cars will carry separate badges on the front wing to designate what engine they have, while another badge will identify the likes of the M hybrid.

A pre-production version of the new Q50 will make its debut at the Detroit motor show in January. The production-ready car will appear at the Geneva motor show in March, where it will be shown with a small diesel engine.
