Jaguar F-type Coupe revealed at LA motor show

The Jaguar F-type Coupe has been officially unveiled at the Los Angeles motor show.

A range-topping F-type R version is also available and comes with a 542bhp 5.0-litre V8 supercharged engine. It gets to 60mph in just 4.0sec, and goes on to an limited top speed of 186mph.

As well as being the fastest F-type so far, the F-type R Coupe is also the most expensive, with prices starting at £85,000.

To handle the extra power - a 54bhp boost over the convertible V8 S that is the second most powerful F-type - the F-type R gets suspension setup changes, plus an electronic differential to distribute the torque to the rear wheels when required.

The F-type R also comes with Jaguar's Adaptive Dynamics system, which continuously monitors the car's movement on the road - and the driver's inputs - to optimise stability. Put the system into Dynamic mode and it stiffens up the dampers, as well as increasing the steering weight, the throttle response and the gearshift speeds.

The R model also comes with an Active Sports Exhaust system, which is automatically selected in Dynamic mode, or can be manually operated. The eight-speed gearbox can be left in auto mode, or changed manually via the gear lever or the paddles mounted on the steering wheel. 

Although it comes with performance brakes as standard, the F-type R can also be specc'd with optional carbon ceramic brakes - an option also offered on the S Coupe version. The S comes with the same 375bhp 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine as the convertible, with a 0-60mph time of 4.8sec, and 171mph limited top speed.

The standard V6 model also shares the same engine as the convertible version, with a 0-60mph time of 5.1sec and top speed of 161mph.

All versions come fitted with stop-start technology as standard. The standard V6 is the most economical, managing an average 32mpg. The V6 S claims 31mpg, while the R achieves 25.5mpg.

Both the V6 and the V6 S Coupes are £7285 cheaper than the convertible equivalents, with prices starting at £51,235 and £60,235 respectively. 

The Coupe also offers extra practicality. It has a bigger boot - 407 litres - which is accessed via a powered hatchback-style tailgate. There's also the option of a glass roof.
