Jaguar takes 2000 F-type pre-orders

More than 2000 people have placed orders for the new Jaguar F-type, which will be launched in spring 2013. The orders put Jaguar on track to meet a tentative target of between 6000 and 7000 F-Type sales in 2013.

Jaguar's global brand director, Adrian Hallmark, told What Car? that a sports car revival could be on the cards.

'We're a long way from the peak of around 140,000 sales we saw back in 2007 [across the industry], but we are expecting an uplift,' he said. 'This will be driven in part by increasing confidence in the economy, but also stimulating new cars such as the Mercedes SL and Porsche 911, and of course the Jaguar F-type.

'Come this time next year, we'll get our fair share of the segment. We expect to sell around 10,000 cars a year.'

He added that the car's performance will live up to its looks and hype. 'There are three engine variants that offer three very different experiences, and buyers won't be disappointed. It's a very, very focused drive; think XKR-S, but threefold.'

Prices for the F-type will start at 58,500 for the V6 petrol version. A more powerful V6 will cost 67,500 and the V8 model gets a 79,950 price.

A coupe model will join the range later on, but Jaguar is yet to confirm a precise on-sale date.
